The Hypnotism Delusion by William Harwood, PhD

The first version of this book, titled The Superconscious World, was ghostwritten for Dr. Harwood’s employer, a stage hypnotist, at a time when the author still believed that hypnotism exists. The second version, Hypnotism Then and Now, was completed after he had come to realize that hypnotism does not exist, has never existed in the past, and will not exist in the future, but at a time when acknowledging that reality in a book designed to be sold by a hypnotist would have been inexpedient. This third version, The Hypnotism Delusion, was written for the purpose of making clear that hypnotism is as much an imaginative fantasy as the god delusion, the parapsychology delusion, the alien-abduction delusion, and the various other contrary-to-fact beliefs that Dr. Harwood has analyzed in his previous books. To persons who wonder why every chapter is significantly different from the versions written to conform to the beliefs of retired hypnotist Peter Reveen, that is the explanation.

Disinformation- Bullshit the Media Encourage You to Believe

by William Harwood, PhD

Less than one hundred persons worldwide believe that the earth is as flat as a dinner plate, and defend that belief on the ground that the Judaeo-Christian bible says so in fifteen places. That is not enough believers to discourage the media from treating the flat-earth cultists as peddlers of unmitigated bullshit.

Less than fifty thousand Scientology cultists worldwide believe that aliens called Thetans colonized the earth billions of years ago, and that their presence was detected by the cult’s founder, L. Ron Hubbard. That is a large enough number, even ignoring Scientology’s Big Lie that it has eight million members, to intimidate the media into pretending that Scientology’s claims are not unmitigated bullshit.

The number of people who believe that extraterrestrials resembling humans in Star Trek makeup are kidnapping humans may be as high as the number of Scientologists. The media apparently think it is, since they refuse to denounce such claims as unmitigated bullshit. Disinformation peddlers to whom the media tend to pander include creationists, who offer the same spurious defence of their bullshit as flat-earthers; self-styled teachers who have turned North American schools into a babysitting service in which teaching has been illegal since World War Two; self-styled psychics; quacks who pretend that their placebo scams constitute alternative medicine; psychiatrists who claim that sympathetic listening is a form of medicine

when they do it, but not a form of medicine when bartenders do the same thing; and trade unions that came

into existence to combat a clear and present injustice, and evolved into a more Stalinistic despotism than the one they replaced.

This book will not please the ignorant, the gullible, the brainwashed—or the media.

PRAISE FOR WILLIAM HARWOOD'S BOOKS:

God, Jesus and the Bible: The Origin and Evolution of Religion God, Jesus and the Bible is like eating your favorite fruit all over again-only with the addition of new insightful material in the endnotes. Like his former book, he treats both Judaism and Christianity with a wholly skeptical and scholarly perspective.

Bernard Katz, American Rationalist

The Protestant Bible Correctly Translated Harwood's translations are always provocative, and occasionally he could not resist making them satirical. The example I like the best is Colossians 4:18: "May the force be with you." Translating the verse as the most famous saying in the Star Wars movies serves to remind the reader that believing the Bible's fairy tales actually happened outside human brains is as silly as believing the people in Star Wars actually did exist in a galaxy far, far away.

Richard Bozarth, Secular Humanist Press

The Autobiography of God If books were beasts, this odd, hybrid volume would count among the stranger ones, up there with such wonders as the platypus and the golden mole. Why? Well, this animal runs on three legs. The first leg is that of postmodernism, a compound of such devices as multiple points of view and unreliable narration. The second is an intriguing mixture of history, theology and anthropology. The third is science fiction, which provides an imaginative and curious background as well as much of the book's narrative energy. Given its strange method of locomotion it covers a surprising amount of ground, and does so remarkably fleetly.

Norman Pridmore, Freethinker Tales of Two Hypnotists

This book contains two separate novels of hypnotists and their use of the pseudo-scientific method of hypnotism for economic gain. [ Read More ]

Before the Paparazzi - 50 Years of Extraordinary Photographs

by Arty Pomerantz and Steven P. Under

When we chose a few hundred pictures for Before the Paparazzi: Fifty Years of Extraordinary Pictures to represent the life's work of a legendary press photographer, thousands more pictures had to be left, literally, "in the box." Before the Paparazzi contains about 28,000 words of text and over 250 pictures-most of them with an accompanying "story behind the pictures." Almost all of the pictures appeared in the New York Post and other New York City newspapers during the years-primarily the 60s through the 90s-that Arty Pomerantz was a staff photographer and assignment editor, and many of them were on the newspapers' front pages.

Arty pioneered the use of 35mm cameras in photojournalism-with their motorized shutter and interchangeable lenses, they revolutionized the industry-and was honored by his peers, who voted him President of the New York Press Photographers Association. He was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize and lost track years ago of the number of national and regional photography awards he's won. His pictures have appeared in virtually every major newspaper and magazine in the country. It would be easier to list the movie stars, Presidents, and poets who are not among these photographs than those who are-on the cover alone you can see Jackie Kennedy, Liz Taylor, Walter Winchell, and the Beatles.

There are pictures of looters in the heart of the city during the Blackout of 1977, pictures of fires and tickertape parades and of the assassination of a Mafia godfather. Chapter introductions provide the reader with a context for the entire book by describing the day-to-day life of a New York City press photographer-for years the only night photographer for the New York Post-who bore visual witness of that quintessential American city's people and events through decades of profound social, political, and technological change. I have assumed that illustrations located through Google, unless otherwise indicated, are public domain. My apologies if I have accidentally violated any copyright. Since the pictures are intended to illustrate the entries that they accompany, some artwork had been retouched to make it do so more appropriately. The Mental Performance Index

Ranking the Best Teams in Super Bowl History

by John F. Murray, PhD

In "The Mental Performance Index: Ranking the Best Teams in Super Bowl History," clinical and sports psychologist Dr. John F. Murray shares his fascinating personal journey and many interesting people and situations inspiring him to love American football and later become a sports psychologist. Growing up in South Florida in the early 1970s, it was impossible for him to ignore the influence of the "perfect season" of the 1972 Miami Dolphins, or Don Shula's constant insights. Later as a sports psychologist, he explains how he wanted to help athletes by measuring how they had performed in a more comprehensive way that accurately included their "mental performance" too. Murray reasoned that since he was constantly telling his athletes to stay focused on "performance" and "process" rather than on "outcome" or "scores," he needed a way to measure how well his clients had complied, and also to verify quantatatively that what he was saying was true! From the earliest caveman days when the first spear thrower attempted to kill a Buffalo so that his village could eat and survive, that person's performance under pressure, or the quality of his mental skills, had been a matter of deep discussion and evaluation. Some, like our modern-day Joe Montana or Tom Brady, handled pressure well and thrived, while others choked, but that quality of "smart play" was never doubted to be important. Despite this universal understanding, Murray jumps out of his shoes when he realizes that nobody in history had taken the time to measure or quantify this "smartness" of play or "mental performance!" He quotes Hegel in Chapter 1, as Hegel once said "Because it's familiar, a thing remains unknown." So the author created a new statistic over eight years to correct this historical oversight and called it "The Mental Performance Index." [ Read More ]

While the Eagle Sleeps - hard cover edition

"While the Eagle Sleeps" is a call to action. And it is a compelling must read for all Americans who yearn for a better life and want to know how to make it happen. - Hon. William G. Milliken, former Governor of Michigan. Ed Robinson, a lifelong political activist, former Michigan State Senator, asks tough questions that will make members of both major political parties squirm. This book is about restoring America's greatness. It is about re-creating a nation for his grandchildren like the one he was lucky enough to grow up in, when as a youngster he'd sit in the front seat of Henry Ford's car in Dearborn, Michigan and talk about baseball-and life.

You Don't Know Jack

by Harry Wylie & Neal Nicol

"It is Kevorkian's only authorized biography, one that attempts "to correct the incomplete portrait ... known by most Americans." Maybe that sounds like the makings of a whitewash job, but the book is about the doctor's flaws and missteps as well as his lesser-known charms and tender side of character."

CAPITAL NEWSPAPERS

"This is an enlightening book and for those thinking on both sides of the issue, the new book about Dr. Kevorkian is a vital read."

THE OTTAWA CITIZEN

"Jack Kevorkian was not only the most famous physician in the mid-1990; he was, after Bill Clinton, probably the nation's best-known celebrity. Whether you admire or condemn him - Kevorkian made an enormous impact on how the entire nation regards end-of life issues. Surprisingly, their book is excellent, accurate and balanced. While both men are strong supporters, they also know very well his faults and don't shrink from listing them. No reader of this book can have any doubt, for example, that the reason Kevorkian has been in prison since 1999 is Jack Kevorkian. What I had assumed was that they would produce an essentially worshipful work that was more hagiography than biography. Fortunately, I was wrong. "Between the Dying and the Dead," is a much better book."

Blue Blood

by Nate Dunlevy

The Colts came to basketball country in 1984. For the past quarter century, the team has laid claim to the hearts of sports fans all over the Hoosier state. With controversial stars like Dickerson and George and Hall of Famers in waiting like Manning and Harrison, the Indianapolis Colts have built a fan base that bleeds blue. From Bob Irsay to Jim Irsay, from Jason Belser to Bob Sanders, from Bill Brooks to Reggie Wayne, this is the story of the love affair between Indianapolis Colts and their fans. Perfect for the die-hard tailgater and the casual fan alike, Blue Blood covers the history of the Colts from the Midnight Move to Super Bowl glory.

"When I began covering the entire AFC South in 2008, my exposure to football writers outside of the traditional mainstream increased dramatically. Since then, none of them has as consistently offered the insightful, well-reasoned analysis of Nate Dunlevy at www.18to88.com. He's a must-read for Colts fans. And he's a should-read for other fan-bloggers around the league."

Paul Kuharsky, ESPN.com

"Nate Dunlevy is one of the most entertaining and creative writers working today in the seedy and boisterous underworld of pro football blogging. He's hopelessly devoted to the Colts when they win, and hopelessly apologetic for their foibles when they blow yet another big game. He is, in short, a football fan. He is a must-read for all those who bleed horseshoe blue-as well as for those who hate the Colts, too."

Pope Ratzinazi and the Faux News Gestapo

by Dr. William Harwood

When Adolf Hitler causes 60 million human deaths by declaring war against an opposition religion, and an unrepentant Nazi Pope and his Down syndrome predecessor cause 60 million human deaths from AIDS and starvation by prohibiting sane population control and sane disease control, can any reasonable person see the latter as less evil than the former? When Rupert Murdoch and his Republicanazi Propaganda Ministry conspire to turn America into a right-wing dictatorship that is a mirror image of Mussolini's Italy, should he and his coconspirators, Beck, Coulter, O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Hannity and Palin, be judged any more favorably than their Italian role model?

Be The Noodle

Fifty Ways To Be a Compassionate, Courageous, Crazy-Good Caregiver

by Lois Kelly

Based on the author's three month odyssey helping her mother live at home while dying, Be The Noodle chronicles the crazy things that happen during this unpredictable journey, things that no medical, hospice, or traditional how-to-deal-with-dying books explain.

From the gut wrenching, like not being able to call 911 during a crisis once you sign up with hospice and struggling to be kind and helpful when you feel like a sleepless shrew, to the mundane, like dealing with too many banana breads from well wishers and advocating for patient martinis with the oncologist.

Part love story, part how-to manual, part memoir, Be The Noodle shows readers how to find superpowers they never knew that had, stay sane, take comfort in sick humor, find compassion and become crazy-good caregivers, one of the most courageous jobs most of us never wanted or have ever been trained to do.

Biblical Apocrypha

Books Excluded from the King James Version (hard cover, 560pp)

edited and translated by Dr. William Harwood

There are as many different bibles as there are denominations of religion. Some, such as the King James and New World bibles, contain the same books and differ only in their translations of the original languages. Others, such as the King James and Jerusalem bibles, differ in the number of books they contain. Catholic bibles contain more books than Protestant bibles. Orthodox bibles contain more books than Catholic bibles. All Christian bibles contain books not found in the Jewish Tanakh. All bibles omit books accepted as canonical by the first generations of Christians. The books in this volume are no more typical of early Christian canons than other collections of apocrypha. But they are also no less so. And all books found in Catholic or Orthodox but not Protestant bibles have been included.

The Protestant Bible Correctly Translated (Hard Cover, 800pp)

by Dr. William Harwood

There has long been a need for a translation of the Judaeo-Christian Bible that did not deliberately mistranslate certain words and sentences for the purpose of concealing that the biblical authors' beliefs were quite different from those of modern Jews, Christians and Muslims. For example, "The LORD" is a falsification of the proper name Yahweh, a god like Zeus or Jupiter. But the most blatant fraud has been the rendering of the Hebrew word allahiym as the male proper name, "God." Allahiym is neither a proper name nor singular nor unisexual. Al means a god. The suffix -ah is a feminine singular inflection, so that allah means "goddess." The suffix -iym is a masculine plural inflection, making allahiym a dual-sex, generic plural, "male and female gods," or, in the common gender, "gods." This translation corrects such falsifications. God, Jesus and the Bible

The Origin and Evolution of Religion (Hard Cover)

by Dr. William Harwood

God, Jesus, and the Bible is a comprehensive history of the origins and development of the Jewish and Christian religions. It traces the origin of the "god" concept, the evolution of monotheism, the development of Judaism through the first century CE, and the evolution of Christianity. God, Jesus, and the Bible utilizes the methodology of history, in which, as in every scientific discipline, conclusions must conform to the evidence, not the methodology of theology, in which evidence is manipulated to whatever degree is necessary in order to make it conform to predetermined conclusions. God, Jesus, and the Bible falsifies religion as totally and permanently as the first photographs of the Martian surface falsified the "canals" myth.

Dr. William Harwood's Catalogue of Publications

by Dr. William Harwood

Catalogue of publications and excerpts of Dr. William Harwood. PRAISE FOR WILLIAM HARWOOD'S BOOKS: THE FULLY TRANSLATED BIBLE: "As if translating a bible bigger than any now in use were not a great enough achievement in its own right, Harwood has rendered serious students and critics of Christian scripture a magnificent further service: he has scrupulously avoided the deliberate mistranslations that have prevented readers from perceiving the true nature of the documents underlying the English prose."

Frank Zindler, American Atheist.

THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF GOD: "It covers a surprising amount of ground, and does so remarkably fleetly. It will offend and annoy all religionists and, I suspect, a good number of humanists too. It is clever, tricky, learned, frequently foul-mouthed (mainly down to Yahweh), and very full of ideas, many of which are, to say the least, highly controversial."

Norman Pridmore, Freethinker.

UNCLE YESHU, MESSIAH: "Uncle Yeshu is not an admirable, or even a likeable person.... The story itself, however, is only a fraction of the wealth of information concerning the conditions, beliefs, and people of that long ago seething cauldron of ignorance, superstition, racism, hate, and fears."

Jack Truett, Pagan Palaver.

Genesis Rejuvenated (color edition)

by Bill Jemas

You can read hundreds of English Language Bible translations along with thousands of books offering explanations of what those translations might mean. Genesis Rejuvenated does something those books do not; it provides translation tools that people like you and me can use to read the Bible for ourselves. Reading the Word, word for word can be an enlightening experience. You expect the Bible to say something like, "In the beginning, God created the Heaven and the Earth," and tell a story about a super-powered Being (who looks like a male human) creating everything from nothing with nothing but the power of His words. But a more faithful translation starts like this, "In principles, the powers-that-be conceive the heavens and the earth," and goes on to tell the story of all of nature's powers and elements agreeing to organize the world according to plans that promote the common good with each doing the thing it does best to execute the common plan.

Why Bad Things Happen to Good People

Edited by Dr. Rodger Swearingen

Why bad things happen to good people is a topic that has increasingly captured my attention-and for two principal reasons: First, the number of dedicated Christians and Jews to whom this question seems to remain quietly disturbing-in times of personal crisis, occasionally even evoking a desperate plea: Why, God? Second, the effect upon agnostics. This appears even more devastating and often more decisive: "If this is how Christianity or Judaism works in times of need; if this is how God operates, I'm not interested!" Such is not an uncommon agnostic's response. There are, no doubt, a number of other personal, historical, sociological, and family factors in play, which would more precisely define any given agnostic's reluctance to accept God or to join a church or synagogue.

God Psychosis

by Dr. William Harwood

Godworship is a contagious form of insanity that is within 300 years of exterminating the human race. God addicts are not committing anthropocide, by environmental pollution and overpopulation, out of malice. Rather, they are convinced that the world is coming to an end within their lifetimes, at which time a deus ex machina is going to carry victims of its mind-AIDS off to a Cloud Cuckoo Land in the sky, and sentence the sane, intelligent and educated minority to be tortured with flamethrowers for eternity in an underworld Auschwitz that can only be described as a sadist's dream. No one who reads a Tanakh, Bible or Koran with his brain in gear can fail to recognize that the character called "God" in English mistranslations is the most sadistic, evil, mass-murdering psychopath in all fiction, and that those allegedly holy books are the most obscene paeans to evil ever written, with Mein Kampf and the Left Behind series their only serious competitors. Be warned. Unless humankind exterminates religion within 150 years, there will not be a human being left on earth in 300 years.

American Hitler

George W. ShicklBush and the Republicanazi Gestapo

by Dr. William Harwood

America has long been perceived as a bully, imposing its will on friend and foe alike. But hitherto America's bullying has been done in the belief that what was good for America was good for planet earth-and a lot of the time it really was. Not any more! George W. Bush has taken bullying to a dimension previously achieved only by Hitler, Stalin and successors, Mao and successors, Attila, Genghis Khan, Ferdinand and Isabella, Napoleon, King David, the homicidal maniac Joshua, and Pope Pius IX. And his motivation is identical to theirs: pursuit of the absolute power that corrupts absolutely. Dr. Harwood's excellent collection of essays and related book reviews will help to set the record of a failed president and a failed man straight.

Impeaching George W. Bush and His Administration

Essays by Different Writers

In the summer of 2007, World Audience Publishers called for essays to make up a book calling for the impeachment of President George W. Bush and members of his administration. Motivated largely by the never-ending Iraq War, a diverse group of international writers took part in the creation of this book. While politics and protest perpetuate in America, this book represents a focused record of outrage.

Your choices are easy: read CyberLaw or suffer the potential consequences."

Anatomy of an Adult Film (Shiboleth Press)

by Sunset Thomas and R. Richard

Anatomy of an Adult Film is a one-of-a-kind, original book, an accurate description of a vast industry, as revealed by inside experts. Anatomy of an Adult Film is very entertaining reading.

"If anyone knows the pornography business, Sunset Thomas does. She writes about our world of flesh and money with the insight and knowledge of a true insider. Like all great confessionals, Anatomy of an Adult Film tells it like it is and keeps it sexy as hell."

Larry Flynt

"Having known Sunset for almost two decades (more than most people), I can speak with authority when I attest to the fact that no one knows the business better. Having seen it from so many perspectives...actress, contract player, centerfold, cover girl, strip club owner, brothel worker, columnist, etc. etc. (Get the picture?)...her insights are entertaining and valuable. In addition, years after Heidi Fleiss was out of business, Sunset became the biggest adult star to enter the world of escorting. Many others then took her lead and that says a lot. This story makes for a great read."

Ron Jeremy

"Sunset Thomas has gone where few women have dared to go and has come back with a great tale to tell. Her experience and insight make this an entertaining and fun read, full of the little details that only an insider can render to the reader. If you thought you knew anything about adult films, be prepared for an eye-opening education."
