by Patricia Helm

To order copies, contact Kyle Torke: torke.kyle@gmail.com

A pampered pup, a doomed shelter cat, and a wayward rooster are ordinary animals acting in extraordinary ways. Clover, C.C., and Early Bird's antics and endearing behavior toward one another gives the reader an example and a deeper understanding of how animals of different species form lifelong friendships. Welcome to their world.

A great feel-good-story, but also a teaching tool, which will make it a favorite to teachers, parents, and animal lovers. —Carole London, publisher, editor

Pat Helm is a natural storyteller. She has created a delightful piece that is engaging, humorous, and thought provoking. —Julie Horewitch, PhD

Ms. Helm's love and understanding for animals took us on a wild romp and had my students begging for more. This is another wonderful book with friendship at its center, and Kids get the message loud and clear. —Jeffra Walters, Teacher of the Year

A Dog, a Cat, and a Rooster is a terrific book for intermediate readers. They will suspend their disbelief about unlikely animal friendships when they immerse themselves in the story, which is based on fact. Helm plants her hooks at the end of each chapter to catch the reader and propel him to the next. Torke's illustrations are wonderfully realistic and true to the characters and action of the story. —Carol McDermott, writer, poet.

During her 35 years as an educator, students taught Pat what type of books they liked and what kind they just couldn’t put down. She obviously wrote this book keeping in mind what students taught her. She can now add “writer” to her long list of accomplishments. Readers of all ages will love this delightful story of the unique relationships between a dog, cat, and rooster that artfully weaves together both fact and fantasy. I dare you to try to distinguish fact from fiction! —Wilma Basnett, PhD, superintendent, Osborn School District, Phoenix, Arizona

Don't be discouraged by the simple fact that the genre falls under 'children's literature.' The illustrations contained in this nearly fifty page volume are detailed and exquisite. The story is told from the point of view of young Steve, an eleven-year-old boy who wants to tell the reader why butterflies are such fascinating subjects. In full color, the book identifies several types of butterflies, and includes their Latin classifications, which makes it a perfect read for younger audiences interested in science.
