To provide a practical working knowledge of key software packages used in capture-mark-recapture studies, emphasizing the use of the R statistical language to read and format data and either produce input for use directly in MARK via a graphic users interface, or wit
h the package RMark (where MARK is run from within R sessions using scripting commands).
Workshop Topics
Proper recording and entry of field data for CMR
Programs in R to format data for software programs (MARK and RMark)
Introduction to MARK and RMark
Pros and cons of each approach
Details of constructing and running models within each framework
Analysis of specific data structures including CJS, Known fates, Tag recovery, Abundance estimation, and the Robust design
Computer Resources Needed
Attendees need to arrive with a laptop computer with suitable operating system compatible with most recent versions of R and MARK. They are strongly encouraged to download, install, and test MARK and RMark before arriving. Links to necessary software, and sample test programs, will be provided in advance of the workshop.
