Local information
ACCOMMODATION:
Some of your group may be interested in extending their visit to Banff, and
possibly involving their families. For more information about the BIRS
guest policy, please visit:
http://www.birs.ca/facilities/accommodations/
for details. In the case where --due to limited availability-- BIRS is
unable to accommodate the family of a participant, he/she will need to
arrange and pay for his/her own accommodation for the duration of the stay
in Banff. The Banff Centre itself (in which BIRS is located) has
considerable facilities for accommodation, both for singles and families.
Also the town of Banff, which is readily accessible by foot (about 10
minutes, downhill) from the Banff Centre, offers a variety of
accommodations. You can find a useful map showing the location of the Banff
Centre and some of the main hotels, restaurants, and attractions of Banff
at: http://www.discoverbanff.com/Maps/ .
Participants of BIRS programmes are housed in Corbett Hall at the Banff
Centre. This facility is reserved for BIRS only. There is a separate
bedroom for each participant, though most rooms have a shared bathroom with
one other participant. Each room is equipped with a queen size bed,
dresser, desk, alarm clock, and coffee maker. A hairdryer is located in the
bathroom.
Participants are expected to arrive on Sunday afternoon or evening (check
in is after 4 p.m.) and to depart Friday midday (checkout is at noon).
Accommodation and meals are provided for the organizers and participants for
this period. The Banff Centre has secure storage for luggage if you would
like to hold afternoon meetings on Friday (up until 3 p.m.).
Participants may request to stay at the BIRS facility for additional nights
(strictly for scientific and/or logistic reasons and subject to room
availability). Such a request needs to be made directly to the BIRS
Scientific Director,
birs-director@birs.ca, and must be requested at least 2 weeks prior to the
start of your workshop.
