My career started with a high school Radio & TV Production class. From there, I went on to get a Bachelors of Science in Broadcasting from Northern Arizona University, a FCC General Radiotelephone Operator’s license, and Society of Broadcast Engineers CBT & CBNT certifications. I worked in the broadcast industry for 12+ years doing production and engineering. I became involved in computers as a result of the increased use of automation systems and business networks in the broadcast industry. By 1996, I had my first Novell certification and the consolidation in the radio industry had reduced the number of engineering jobs in the central Ohio market. When Clear Channel Communications bought Nationwide Communications Incorporated, my position was eliminated so I changed my career path to Information Technology.
Since then, I've had 15+ years of experience as a Network Administrator and IT Manager on Novell NetWare and Microsoft Active Directory based systems. I've managed $100K multi-vendor infrastructure projects and completed a consulting client’s workstation roll-outs that had been 2 years behind schedule. I hold a Masters in Information Systems Management from Keller Graduate School and several certifications including Novell CNE, Microsoft MCSE, Cisco CCNA and a Project Management Institute PMP certification.
In 2011, I accepted a position with a local school district as a network and technology administrator. While there, I used my broadcast background to rebuild and upgrade their audio and video facilities and help them start a Media Production class. I found I enjoyed working with students and decided to become licensed to teach. In 2014, I received my statement of eligibility for the Ohio Alternative Resident Educator License in Computer Science. That July, I accepted a position with Newark City Schools teaching Digital Media Technology at Newark High School and became an adjunct professor in the IT program at Central Ohio Technical College.
In the Summer of 2015, I returned to graduate school to begin working on a Graduate Certificate in Educational & Instructional Technology taking courses on-line through Northern Arizona University. Taking courses every summer will allow me to complete the program in 2017.
