Our Fibromyalgia Support Group has taken part for the last couple of years in the Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI). This is an international programme funded by the Toskan Casale Foundation which encourages youngsters at a formative stage in their education, to become involved with a local charity of their choice. In teams, the young people meet with their charity, find out all about it and then put together a presentation designed to win their charity a sizeable award.
On May 31st Alison Crerar and Linda Richardson attended the finals at The James Young High School in Livingston. An all-girl team (Freya Harkness, Millie Thomson, Kiera Duncan and Neve Cormack) beat the seven other finalists to win £3000 for our Group. It was a moving experience to see how these enthusiastic youngsters had worked so hard on our behalf and internalised with great compassion what it means to live with fibromyalgia.
This is a tremendous boost to our funds. It will enable us to step up our efforts to engage with local primary care providers, and offer members social and therapy opportunities that were previously out of reach.
