“The research team at the Aberdeen Centre for Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Health (www.abdn.ac.uk/acamh) are undertaking a new project focussed on fibromyalgia.

The overall aim is to design, implement and evaluate a new model of care for persons with fibromyalgia which result in:

better clinical and patient-reported outcomes,

higher patient levels of satisfaction

reduced costs to the NHS

The project involves understanding what happens currently in the NHS and patient experience with services, thinking about designing better services and then evaluating these services and testing whether they are better than what is done currently.

We are seeking the involvement of a group of people with fibromyalgia to work with us on this project. We are keen to involve people of different ages, both male and female, some people with mild and others with more disabling symptoms, and people from different parts of the UK. It will involve taking part in a small number of telephone meetings and we would appreciate at least a couple of people to attend a face-to-face meeting with other members of the study team. We are particularly keen to involve people who feel they can represent the views of patients (generally) with fibromyalgia. Within the study itself there will be plenty opportunity for people to tell us their personal experiences. We will pay expenses associated with taking part.

If you are interested please contact Professor Gary Macfarlane at The University of Aberdeen on g.j.macfarlane@abdn.ac.uk . He would be keen to know your thoughts on what you feel you can contribute “
