Food allergies affect about 4-6% of children in the United States. The most common food allergies are peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, milk, and seafood. Allergic reactions can range from mild to potentially life threatening.
Nut-Free Areas. For the health and safety of our students some areas in the ELEMENTARY schools have been designated as nut-free. These include the nurse's offices, nut-free tables in the cafeteria, and several classrooms. Please check with your child's teacher if you are not sure whether their classroom is nut-free. No nuts, nut products, or products made in facilities with nuts are allowed in these areas. The Middle School and High School do not designate specific nut-free areas.
EpiPens. Many students are prescribed EpiPens or similar epinephrine auto-injectors for the treatment of acute allergy symptoms. All faculty and classroom staff are trained in their use. EpiPens should be provided by parents or guardians for any student who requires one. In addition, the health rooms have a limited number of school EpiPens for emergency treatment of any undiagnosed allergies.
