Hell's Gate National Park covers an area of about 68 square kilometres. There are two extinct volcanoes located in the park and the Hell's Gate Gorge, lined with red cliffs which contain two volcanic plugs: Fischer's Tower and Central Tower. Off of Central Tower is a smaller gorge which extends to the south, with a path that descends into hot springs that have rocks hot enough to cause burns.

The park has been used as a location for a number of films, including "Lara Croft Tomb Raider" and was the inspiration behind "Pride Rock" in Disney's Lion King.

It is a popular day out, with the opportunity to rock climb on Fischer's Tower, cycle and walk amongst the wildlife.

The national park is also home to three geothermal power stations at Olkaria, the first in Africa, and generates geothermal power underneath Hell's Gate from the area's hot springs and geysers.
