Student Government Award in College

True leadership is defined easily. It is the ability to direct a group towards the achievements of its mission in a way that is satisfying for the followers. The challenge lies in achieving this in a cohesive and effective manner.

Before I began studying at Towson University, I attended Catonsville Community College. There, I was the vice president of the international club for two years. I was awarded by the Student Government Association for my efforts. I was the only American at the onset of the group meetings. Not only was it crucial to consider the challenge of leading, but I had to be careful with many cultural contexts that my actions and words would be filtered through. Luckily, they were down to earth personalities and we all became good friends. I ensured we would get along by forgetting titles, working together, and being observant of the cultures and how my actions would be interpreted.
