Wessex Metal Detecting Association - Newbury, Berkshire
Welcome to the homepage of the Wessex Club. We are a small social club that goes metal detecting and we cater for enthusiasts in the Newbury area.
Although based in Newbury we regularly detect in Berkshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire.
Please feel free to contact the club regarding membership, but please be aware that demand is currently extremely high (membership is currently limited to sixty people). You are welcome to meet and chat with us at our social evenings.
Club Social Evenings
We meet at 8.00pm on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday in every month in Thatcham.

About the club
The club meet socially during evening events and share finds through regular displays. The friendly nature of the club means there are plenty of experienced members who can help with identification.
We have dig sites around Berkshire, North Hampshire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire but we are always looking for new sites. As we are a small club, we can make good use of smaller sites that would not be of interest to the commercial dig organisers.
The site meetings are predominantly held on a Sunday and we charge members a site fee when attending. The club is non-profit making with all dig fees going direct to the land owner or a designated charity (see our Charity Activities page).
Members are required to have third party insurance through membership of a national body (NCMD or FID). Members are also required to comply with The Treasure Act 1996.
Our members voluntarily record a significant number of finds with the Portable Antiquities Scheme and the Finds Liaison Officer regular attends our social evenings.
