Flipped Classroom

You may be asking "What is a flipped classroom?" - Well, depending on who you ask, you may get a variety of answers, but basically, when you deliver foundational content outside of the classroom and then use class time to clarify concepts and help students apply what they've learned - that's a flipped classroom.

A common misconception is that outside content delivery is always in the form of a video, however, video delivery is just one method for delivery that is used. Content may also be delivered through text readings, Internet searches, podcasts, etc.

While Salman Kahn, of Kahn Academy, is known for "inventing" the flipped classroom approach (see video to right), there are teachers across the nation that are embracing this methodological approach and creating training materials to help teachers who wish to give it a try. Check out this great play list of videos by Katie Gimbar who has a whole series of videos on flipping her classroom - also be sure to checkout the resources listed below.
