5. Getting Started

Getting Started

When is a good time to get started?

Like most Cub Scout Packs, we have activities year-round.  You can become a scout at anytime. Just contact our Cubmaster or the Den Leader in your age group - or, just show up at one of our meetings.

If you have an interest in learning more about our Pack, if you have questions, or if you are ready to get started, please click here and fill out our website form.  It only takes a minute and we will contact you shortly.

If you are sure you are ready to sign-up you can click here and proceed to register with our pack.

When do we meet?

Den Meetings (when just one age group meets - with the Den Leader) are normally held every Monday, from the first Monday after Labor Day in September to the last Monday in April.  We usually do not meet on holidays or when Akron Public School is not in session.  Our meetings begin promptly at 7:00 pm, so please make sure you child is on time so they do not miss any of the fun.  We usually end by 8:00 pm unless there is a special event.

Pack Meetings are normally held once per month (on the last Monday of the month) and all of our scouts (Kindergarten - 5th grade) get together of a big meeting.  The meeting is normally led by the Cubmaster or Assistant Cubmaster.  Keep an eye on the calendar for the dates. You are welcome to stop by if you are considering joining the pack.  We gear the meeting towards the kids and the goal is to have fun and recognize them for their recent accomplishments (with awards, pins, loops, badges, and whatever else we dream up). These are also the times that we have celebrations like our Costume Party, Cake Auction, and Pack Graduation.

To verify meeting times, you can check the calendar here.

What is the Cost of Joining?

First - don't let the cost scare you off.  It's not that expensive and our Pack is able to assist if you need help.  The person to see about assistance is the Cubmaster, Assistant Cubmaster, or Advancement Chair. This will be kept between you and them but you can tend to that later.

Second - The annual fee is varies based on if you are new or returning to the Pack.  There are fees associated with the uniform, but that is also something you can discuss privately with our leaders. The Fee for each scout is $80 per year. If this is your first year, there is an additional one time $25 fee assessed. The Pack also asks for a $20 fee.

We are not worried about the fees being paid up front.  We can work with you.  Scouting is actually quite reasonable considering all that your son will be doing throughout the year.  Our mission is to ensure that any boy who wants to be involved in Scouting, can be involved.  For more information about the costs, view or download our Parent FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) here.
