New to Scouting? Thinking about Scouting?
We developed this section to answer some common questions...
What is scouts about?
Cub Scouting is a program for boys and girls, in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. The motto of the scouting program is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
Will scouts help my child grow?
Cub Scouting has your child meet with other kids their age, doing activities that will teach your child about themselves, health, safety, and the world around them. Each activity is designed to be presented at their age level and the experiences build year after year and last a lifetime.
Why should I sign my child up?
Each child needs an outlet, something they enjoy doing. The scouting programs offer a variety of activities. We are not all about outdoors and camping. Children learn and participate in all types of activities that will help them grow.
How is Boy Scouts of America organized?
The local Cub Scout units are called Packs. Each Pack has Dens, where children meet in grade level groups for activities. Once a child is in the fifth grade, if they want to continue with the scouting program, they would join a Troup. We have a male and female Troup that we work with.
In a local area, Packs and Troops are part of what is called a Scout District; ours is Canal District and includes all of southern Portage and Summit Counties. Multiple districts make up a Council; our Council is the Great Trail Council running through Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Summit , and Trumbull Counties. These Councils are what make up Scouts BSA across the United States of America.
What can I expect from scouts?
We will provide you and your child quality programs and experience at a reasonable price.
What is expected of me?
Cub Scouts is a family program. You and your family can attend our outings and participate in our activities. This will be a great bonding experience for your and your child. You get out of scouting what you put into it.
