1. Foxhunt Tape Measure Antenna

Introduction

The group project is a tape measure antenna used for foxhunting. The antenna is a 2 Meter version based on the antenna designed by Joe Leggio WB2HOL. The tape measure antenna will be used with the active offset attenuator in a future project.

Design and Construction Notes: Build like plans below, except place 6" pipe stubs at three cross tees to support steel tape elements. Use black electrical tape to fasten steel tape elements to pipe stubs. Using the pipe stubs and electrical tape instead of hose clamps greatly reduces cost. In addition, the hose clamps can cause cuts to the operator's hands due to their sharp edges. As a group project, better cost is achieved by purchasing 10 packs of plumbing parts. Harbor Freight tape measures can be purchased on sale to reduce cost, as well. Assembly time can be fit into meeting by having a volunteer cut pipe sections and steel tape elements to exact lengths needed. A prototype antenna boom should be built to determine correct length of pipe sections before all the cutting is done.
