Note about Scanning Windows Files while Running Ubuntu Linux
In a separate article I briefly cover installing and running Ubuntu Linux, which is a wonderful, fast, and secure operating system. If you use a dual-boot system (a system that can run either Windows or Linux—depending upon your choice at boot-up time), you can configure your system to virus/malware scan the Windows part of your system from Ubuntu Linux. (If you have a dual-boot system, the Windows operating system will not be running at the same time as Linux when you boot-up in Linux.) The advantage of virus/malware scanning from the Ubuntu Linux is that a number of rootkits (one of the worst types of malware) that hide within Windows, may not be able to hide from Linux. The rootkits that infect Windows use (force) the Windows operating system to pro-actively hide their existence. However, a virus/malware scanner running on Linux may be able to both detect them and delete them with no problem.
