Glenn Miller (born March 1, 1904) was an American big-band composer, trombonist and bandleader. Miller decided to join the war effort in 1942 to entertain allied troops in Europe. His aircraft disappeared in bad weather over the English Channel on December 15, 1944.

Joseph Francis “Mac” McDonald (R204322) completed 32 operations with 576 Squadron, RAF earning him the RCAF Operational Wings. His first mission was on June 13, 1944, a few days after D-Day. "Mac" lived in the small town of Aylmer in the province of Quebec, Canada - the same town as F/O Robert Toomey. This website recounts his experiences as an air gunner on the notable Lancaster ME801.
The website 419 Squadron.com is a an extensive collection of biographies, photos log books and recollections of those who served in 419 (Moose) Squadron during World War Two. This squadron was based at RAF Middleton St. George with Squadron 428 and completed 4,325 operational sorties during the war . One hundred and twenty-nine aircraft were lost on these operations, 618 aircrew were killed and 197 became prisoners of war.
In 1943, RAF Bomber Command began an intensive night bombing campaign against Germany.
They were opposed by the Luftwaffe night fighters and faced a nightmare of flak, icy conditions and mechanical problems.
Most of the crews were either shot down and killed, or taken prisoner.
