How? The following is a short and clear description on how you can go about it; no stone will be left unturned!!
Materials you need: Plywood/MDF for Platform, Base and Separators, Mild Steel/Aluminium for Bracket)
1.1 Platform: 570mm x 570mm x 20mm (you can use any other dimensions you think more suitable for you)
1.2 Base: 570mm x 140mm x 20mm
1.3 Bracket: 250mm x 60mm x 8mm (recommended width is slightly wider than the 60mm used in this project; 70mm)
1.4 Separators/Spacers: Four 140mm x 60mm
Parts you need:
2.1 HGW25CC Linear Bearing (Hiwin or Hiwin compatible)
2.2 HG25 Rail
2.3 T10 Leadscrew Kit (individual parts can also be procured)
2.3.1 One(1) T10 Leadscrew (300mm long, with lead 2mm),
2.3.2 One(1) Leadscrew Nut,
2.3.3 One(1) Leadscrew Nut Housing and
2.3.4 Two(2) KP000 Pillow Bearings
2.4 Four(4) M6 (60mm long) Bolts (with Nuts)
2.5 Four(4) M6 (30mm long) Bolts (with Nuts)
2.6 Four(4) M8 DIN7991 (20mm long) Screws
2.7 Four(4) M5 DIN7991 (10mm long) Screws
2.8 One(1) M8 DIN7984 (20mm long) Screw
2.9 Five(5) M6 DIN7984 (50mm long) Screws (with nuts)
2.10 A handwheel with 10mm hole
How to drill holes and assemble the unit: Here, to cut a long story short and clear, we'll use some graphics (Fig1 for a general idea on where to make holes as well as for identifying which types/sizes of bolts/screws go where; Fig2 is a technical drawing specifying all the dimensions for th Platform and Base)
Fig1 General layout of the guide showing location of holes, screws, bolts, bearings, a rail and an angle grinder
Fig2 Technical Drawing for a Base and Bracket
4. Other important notes ...
Fig3 Note how the two stacked 140mm x 60mm x 20mm makes a separator between the Platform and the Base; this is done under either side of the Base
Fig4 Also note that since the T10 leadscrew nut and housing are attached by too small screws, you can opt to drill the nut and drill/tap the housing for bigger screws; here I used M6 bolts
Fig5 Since the lower part of the cutting disk with lie beneath the surface of the platform a hole (with a diameter of around 80mm) has to be drilled on a platform where the travel starts; this will allow installation and removal of the cutting disk.
...so that's it!! For inspiration and perhaps more details you can see some images below ...
Using the guide for the first time; here an angle line is cut so as to be used to make a fence for the guide.
