We are seeking interested students that want to pursue full-time PhD in AI/ML, and Semantic Computing at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), South Africa. The positions will be fully/partially funded by the National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Africa depending on the profile of selected candidates. Candidates that are selected for partial funding by NRF will be supplemented by internal funding to ensure adequate funding for 3 -years. The starting date is April 2021. This demands that applications for admission into the PhD programme must be received before March 2021.
The research topics will pertain to the SEDESS project, which focusses on Semantics and Explainable AI for Decision Support Systems in Healthcare

The student should have a prior qualification in Computer Science (Bachelor/Master)
or a closely-related field, and should be knowledgeable in:
- Python and machine learning
- Open-source software development in Java/Python
- Knowledge of NLP/ Semantic Web technologies
Also, the student must have obtained a minimum of 65% graduation grade at the master’s level
