Boy Scouts Earn Forestry merit badge at Walnut Ridge

On October 22, 2011 local Old Trail District Boy Scouts from troops 3, 6, 16, and 100 attended Walnut Ridge to work with a forester and earn their forestry merit badge. Brian Gandy, an accredited independent forester, spent more than five hours with the scouts and adults teaching them proper forest management, identification of trees, shrubs and vines, proper care and safety when logging and felling trees, impacts of forestry on our economy and ecology, and finally employment opportunities in the forestry industry.
