About Us

The Amateur Radio Transmitting Society is Louisville’s oldest ham radio club, founded in Nov 1927.

ARTS is not a “Contest Club” a “Repeater Club” or a “DX Club”. We are not a special interest Club at all. We do, however, invite amateurs strongly interested in the different aspects of Ham Radio to join ARTS and promote their special interests. We welcome all radio amateurs from the newest technician to the most seasoned extra class, and those interested in becoming a licensed Amateur Radio Operator (HAM). We encourage membership in ARRL, ARES, and RACES, and acknowledge the amateur radio operator’s responsibility to the public by providing emergency communications, encouraging members to improve their communication and technical skills, and by fostering international good will.

Some of our activities include/have included providing communications for local events such as the Derby Breakfast at Farmington held on Derby day, the American Diabetes Association Tour de Cure bike ride, other charity bike rides and events, the US Islands QSO Party, and Special Event Stations. We hold regular 2 Meter FM and SSB Nets and participate in the ARRL’s annual Field Day on the 4th full weekend in June, the WFDA’s Winter Field Day on the last full weekend in January, and we have a booth at the Greater Louisville Hamfest held every September. Also in September we have our annual Club Dinner Meeting and in December we have our HAM Radio Items Gift Exchange.

All this in addition to our regular monthly meetings which include an informative and entertaining program about HAM Radio.

The Amateur Radio Transmitting Society has been affiliated with the American Radio Relay League since Feb 1st 1935 and is an ARRL Special Service Club. ARTS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
