The VYLH Philippines was formally organized last July 17-19, 2009 during the National Youth Camp (1st National Youth Camp: Institution and Planning Workshop of VYLH Philippines) in Tagaytay Dacha Hotel,Tagaytay City through the collaborative effort of the Institute of Human Genetics of the National Institute of Health-University of the Philippines, Manila, Department of Health and The UPLB Genetics Society, a student organization of University of the Philippines Los Baños.
The National Youth Camp marked the launch of massive information drive in schools and communities represented by the attendees. The pioneer batch of leaders conducted a series of advocacy and promotional activities in their respective schools and communities. In some schools or universities, the network expanded in other organizations. Majority of community based youth organizations became partners of the rural and city health offices of their respective communities. They were also mobilized in the advocacy and promotional work of the health center.
July 2009
· July 2009- VYLH camp content on NBS and Folic acid was introduced to Pre-Med Soc of Ateneo de Manila University(ADMU)
· July 2009- Folic Acid was included into Health Tidbits campaign ( a monthly multimedia campaign used by the Pre-Med Society of Ateneo (PMSA) to educate Loyola Schools community on different health issues
· July 2009- NBS and Folic Acid was introduced into the health module of PMSA’s, NSTP and provided talks to its adopted community in Brgy Pansol, Quezon City- Ateneo de Manila University.
· July 2009-Senior Sciences Health Thesis on NBS was conducted by a senior student entitled “ A Cohort analysis on the determining factors underlying the utilization of NBS in Newborn Screening Facilities /Lying-in clinics in Quezon City)”-Ateneo de Manila University
· July 20, 2010- Courtesy Call to Father Saturnino Urios University (VP for Student Affairs, Director for Student Affairs, and Dean-Nursing Program)
· July 21, 2010- Report to the Nursing Program Supreme Student Government with: -Philippine Student Nurses Association-FSUU
· -Nightingale’s Pen -FSUU
· July 2009-Distribution of NBS posters and Flyers to community health care centers- Baguio City by St Louis University
· July 2009-Posting of Newborn Screening posters in Campuses- UP Diliman, QC
· Psychology Society-UP Diliman was oriented about NBS and Folic Acid campaign
· Siliman University- Formalized VYLH in the University- registered the organization in school
· Included VYLH: Folic Acid and NBS in Radio station for her internship during Public Service Announcement – by Zaph Zamudio of Siliman University
· Siliman University- For Nursing students- VYLH is already introduced- Community Information during Community Health in Nursing in 2 barangays- Folic acid and NBS were lectured.

August 2009

· University of San Carlos, Cebu -Re-echo Folic Acid and NBs in Community Health in Nursing Curriculum
· August 18-19, 2009- Gulayan sa Bakuran Symposium, Cabulay High School, Cabulay Santiago City- A joint Project of Youth Action on Health Population and Environment (YAHPE)- Santiago City, Volunteer Youth Leaders For Health-Santiago City, Local Youth Development Council (LYDC), and Isabela State University Student Supreme Council.
· August 2009- Bayanihan Project- A joint project of KALIS (Kabataang lingcod ng simbahan), YAHPE-ISABELA (Youth Action on Population and Environment), Santiago City Local Youth Development Council, Isabela State Supreme Student Council, VYLH-Santiago City (Volunteer Youth Leaders for Health) and Department of Agriculture – Region II. Folic Acid Supplementation was tackled during the event.

October 2009
- October 4-7, 2009-Representation to the The 4th International Conference on Birth Defects and Disabilities in the Developing World Frank Daniel Canlobo, a member of the VYLH-LB, and the VYLH-UPLB Faculty Adviser, Dr. Merlyn Mendioro were part of the Philippine delegation to the 4th international conference on Birth Defects and Disabilities. The conference was held in India last October 4-7. The delegation was headed by Dr. Carmencita Padilla. Dr. Eva Maria Cutiongco-dela Paz, Assistant Director of IHG-NIH and Dr. Juanita Basilio, OIC-Director of FHO-DOH also attended the conference.
