The Vermont Science Teaching Association (VSTA) is raising $25,000 to strengthen K–12 science and STEM education across Vermont through high-quality professional learning opportunities for educators.
Our most immediate fundraising priority is securing a nationally recognized science education expert whose visit will include:
A keynote presentation at the 2026 VSTA Fall Conference
A full-day K–5 educator workshop designed to transform science teaching practices in Vermont classrooms
This opportunity will directly impact educators across the state and help expand engaging, equitable, and high-quality science instruction for Vermont students.
Recent data highlight an urgent need to strengthen science education:
57% of Vermont 5th graders scored below proficient in science
58% of 8th graders scored below proficient
53% of 11th graders scored below proficient
At the same time, many elementary educators report limited time and support for science instruction. VSTA is working to change that by providing educators with access to meaningful professional development, instructional resources, and statewide collaboration opportunities.
By investing in teachers, we invest in students—and in Vermont’s future workforce.
Contributions to VSTA will help:
Bring nationally recognized STEM and science education experts to Vermont
Provide transformative professional learning for educators
Expand access to high-quality K–12 STEM instruction
Support educator and student scholarships
Strengthen statewide science education initiatives
