Psychotherapy

Vita Pondera Wellness® specializes in the following therapies:

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) reduces present symptoms and improves quality of life by focusing on the interaction of three variables: our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. CBT utilizes homework assignments so clients can practice the skills they have learned in sessions in their daily life. CBT leads to long-term results because clients learn a new, healthier way of thinking, behaving and interacting in the world.

Characteristics of CBT:

  • Goal oriented

  • Time-limited - results are obtained faster than in many other therapies

  • Empirically validated – effective for many disorders as demonstrated through research

  • Collaborative – the client is an active participant

  • Emphasis is on the present

    • Behavioral Medicine is an interdisciplinary field that is concerned with the interface between the psychological, social, behavioral, and biological aspects of health. At VPW, we view each client from a bio-psychosocial perspective, considering all aspects of the behavioral medicine model. This conceptualization is particularly helpful for those who are struggling with a chronic and/or stress-related illness. We implement psychophysiological treatments, such as biofeedback, relaxation training and guided imagery, to facilitate change. Often times, pain and suffering may be reduced by addressing lifestyle, coping skills, and available support, allowing you to feel more in control over your health and well-being. With our client’s permission, we collaborate with other health-care practitioners, such as physicians, psychiatrists, and physical therapists, for integrative treatment.

    • Mindfulness Based Stress-Reduction - the therapists at VPW incorporate the principles of mindfulness to aid in achieving the clients’ goals. Practicing mindfulness enhances our ability to be aware of the present moment; paying full attention to our thoughts, feelings, emotions, and physical sensations as well as the events occurring around us. This enhanced, non-judgmental awareness is a powerful tool for changing our habitual reactions and can lead to a sense of peace and calm in our hectic world.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy, focuses on reducing suffering through acceptance and mindfulness, then creating behavior change and psychological flexibility to live a life that is aligned with one’s values; a life of meaning. ACT offers an alternative, new way to approach the inner aspects of ourselves, including those that we fear, struggle with, and avoid.
