Vicksburg Theater - The Wizard of Oz, Youth Edition: 4-8 Grade Musical

L. Frank Baum’s beloved story of a young girl’s adventure in a magical land has been entertaining audiences for over a century. MGM’s blockbuster 1939 film adaptation, featuring the timeless songs of Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg, along with the brilliant instrumental music of Herbert Stothart, elevated the popular novel to even greater heights. This stage adaptation, featuring the characters and celebrated songs from the film, brings the wondrous Land of Oz to life in a jubilant theatrical experience.

Join Dorothy and her loyal companion Toto as they “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” through the Land of Oz, determined to reach the Emerald City, where the great and powerful Wizard of Oz will help them get home. Of course, along the way, Dorothy encounters witches (both good and bad), Munchkins, talking trees and winged monkeys. But most importantly, she befriends three unique characters: a Scarecrow with no brain, a Tin Man with no heart, and a Lion with no “nerve.” Their journey to happiness – and self-awareness – is a glowing testament to friendship, understanding and hope in a world filled with both beauty and ugliness.

How to audition for CAST OR CREW:

STEP 1: Fill out the Audition Form on this page.

If only auditioning for crew (backstage roles), you can skip STEP 2! If auditioning for cast (onstage roles), continue to Step 2.

STEP 2: Attend an audition time (if auditioning for Cast) in the Vicksburg Middle School Choir Room.

4th-5th grade Auditions: Tuesday, September 8 6:00-8:00pm OR Wednesday, September 9 4:30-6:30pm

6th-8th grade Auditions: Tuesday, September 8 4:30-6:30pm OR Wednesday, September 9 6:00-8:00pm

The grade levels for these times are only suggestions, not requirements.

At the audition, you will: learn a song and perform it one person at a time; practice an audition scene and perform it with scene partners; learn a short dance combination and perform the dance.

STEP 3: Wait for the Company List to be posted by Sunday, September 13 at 5pm. It will be posted on the outside doors of the Vicksburg Middle School Choir Room as well as on this website and our Facebook and Instagram pages (@vicksburgtheater). If you are on the company list, come to the First Rehearsal on Tuesday, September 15 from 5-6:30pm, followed by the Parent/Company Meeting at 6:30pm in the Vicksburg High School Performing Arts Center (PAC). NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE 1 PARENT/GUARDIAN IN ATTENDANCE.
