Fall 2020 Frequently Asked Questions

Are there opportunities for in-person lessons?

Yes, you can have in-person lessons in my backyard from September 8th-October 15th. After October 15th, I will re-evaluate the possibility of using Music Institute facilities for a limited number of in-person lessons. You must be a Music Institute student to take advantage of this option.

Is there financial aid available?

Yes! The Music Institute's financial aid budget has been significantly increased to support families whose lives have been negatively impacted by the pandemic. Please apply by September 8th. For more information, go here

My home (non-MIC) students can also receive financial aid if they are experiencing hardship. Please talk with me in person.

My child is exhausted from so much e-learning. Is there anything we can do besides in-person lessons to help reduce screen time?

We can divide your child's lesson into two smaller intervals during the week. Depending on their level, we might spend one lesson focusing on technique or reading and another focusing on repertoire.

Another option is to occasionally skip having a full live lesson and send me a video of your practice. I will supply written comments and, if needed, videos to supplement that week's practice. This would take the place of part of or all of a lesson.

When can lessons occur this fall?

I will be teaching 10am through 7pm Monday through Friday. Please let me know if you need lesson times outside of these parameters.

Times which cannot be scheduled: Tuesdays 6:00-6:45pm.

When does Fall Scheduling begin?

You can begin send me two lesson requests (days/time frames) between Monday, August 3rd and Monday, August 21st. If you a student through the Music Institute, you will need to enroll. You can do so online (or print out a paper form) by going to the bottom of this page.

What happens if we are back in the classroom and our lesson time no longer works?

I will redo the schedule.

What are my payment options?

You may 1) pay in full for the 17 weeks at the beginning of each semester (by September 8th for fall and February 1st for spring), OR 2) monthly payments of a set amount (the 17 week semester will be divided into 5 monthly payments).

Will I receive notifications of payment due dates?

You can opt to receive notifications via my Google calendar for the payment plan you choose. There will be no monthly invoices unless payments are made later than the 7th day of the month.

Is there a penalty for late payment?

Yes. If your payment is not received by the 7th of each month, I will send you an invoice for that month's payment plus an additional $10 late fee.

What if I need to miss a lesson?

Students receive one make-up per semester in the instance of death in the family or illness. If you have a conflict with your lesson time, I can try to help you find someone to switch with, but this is not guaranteed.
