BSA has takes the protection of our Scouts very seriously. All registered adult leaders in the Pack have undergone criminal background checks by both the BSA and state of California, state required Mandated Reporter training. In addition all adult leaders perform BSA's Youth Protection Training (YPT) annually (National requirements are biannual training, our Council requires annual training).
Other measures BSA has put in place to protect our Scouts is that no adult leader will interact with any youth scout (under 18) without at least one other YPT current adult leader present, unless that scout is their own child. This means there must be at least two YPT adult leaders at every den meeting. Other examples are that adult leaders cannot carpool with other youth scouts to an event unless there is a second YPT adult leader in the vehicle, or adult leaders cannot text/call a youth scout without a second YPT adult leader as a part of the conversation.
In addition to the adult training and rules, the scouts are required to take age-appropriate training at each rank (grade) level. Scouts and their families can choose between "Protect Yourself" which are age-appropriate lessons in recognizing when they are in personal danger or do "Cyber Chip" training, which teaches age-appropriate online self-protection. Scouts can chose one or both, but must perform at least one annually.
All parents are encouraged to review the Youth Protection pamphlets available in the front of every Cub Scout Handbook and in a
