UPDATES

3-19-15 Ramp is 16" long. Fireball wall is 5.25" wide. Blue shortcut path is behind black path.

3-19-15 The course drawings have been updated and the circles to represent the tributes have been shrunk to minimize the effects of line following programs. The black course lines have been darkened to the same shade of black to minimize interference with

the line following program. The files to print the course have been added below as "BlankCourseUpdate3-19-15Sheet1" and "BlankCourseUpdate3-19-15Sheet2" along with the drawing used to create these title blocks. These documents can

be viewed using Solidworks or eViewer.

3-19-15 The Combined presentation for NXT and EV3 has been added to the documents below.

3-19-15 Participants can email usiasme@gmail.com about general questions pertaining to the competition. This email will be checked daily and emails will be replied to as soon as possible.

3-23-15 100 grade sandpaper has been added to the face of the ramp closest to the start position and to the top flat portion. The sandpaper is painted green and matches the rest of the ramp. Traction will still be a challenge to the course. Teams should consider

there center of mass to improve traction on the ramp.

3-23-15 The Green Ramp has been repainted to a slightly different shade of green. We recommend that you verify your sensor readings the day of the competition.

3-23-15 Competition information is currently the following:

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is there a certain program to open the file?

A: You can open them with SolidWorks’ eDrawings Viewer: http://www.solidworks.com/sw/support/edrawings/e2_register.htm which is available for free.

Q: How many team members is ideal and can we borrow a kit? If not how do I get one?

A: The maximum number of students in a team is 4. Yes, you can borrow a kit (it will be an NXT 2.0 Lego Mindstorm kit).

Q: What colors of paint that were used for the board?

A: The course is actually printed from a plotter. However, the vertical features are painted: ramp, walls, black circle feature. We recommend teams check their sensor readings on the actual course on the day of competition as ambient light will have an effect. The smaller marks (yellowcircles, blue triangles, and purple squares) are only there to show where to put the Lego people. We are going to make the yellow circles much smaller than they appear on the picture, so they don't interfere with line following the black path.

Ramp - Green

Fireball wall - red

Path circle in front of this wall - red

Shortcut path - blue

Block walls - red and white

Q: What are the age/grade level requirements for the middle school level of the ASME Robotic Competition?

A: We have targeted the competition for Middle School and above. However, if you have teams that want to participate, we’d be happy to allow them to compete in the Middle School Division.

Q: Must we organize a single kit per each team that we enter into the competition? Also, are 4th graders old enough to compete?

A: We will not be counting pieces - the only strict requirements are that there are a maximum of three motors, and no extra sensors or wheels.

Q: Are schools limited to a certain number of teams?

A: You can enter as many teams as you wish.

Q: Are there going to be shirts this year?

A: No t-shirts this year.

Q: When will the competition start?

A: We anticipate starting registration at 8 and finishing up around noon.
