Inside the realm of Apex, a vampire resides in the dead city, other wise known as Ora’Gadul. His name is Lord Gthial Be’rutol, one of the oldest vampires in the realm of apex, no one knows his exact age, some say he is thousands of years old however the information is fuzzy at best. His name, is an indication of a language that was invented before Apex. He is responsible for a lot of the terror that resides within the realm of apex with his cults, undead and unearthly abominations that are summoned from hidden realms that is too much for a feeble human mind.
He is an immense threat to the realm of Apex, if not the greatest threat that resides within the realm. However attempts from many armies have faltered, as most men are too weak willed to handle the abominations that roam Ora’Gadul. This was clear when the village of Flerue was attacked. This was called the scourge. An estimate of 300 people were taken by surprise when they noticed the army of horrific abominations coming from the east, monsters that could not be described as anything less than demons from an alternate realm. Who ever wasn’t as lucky enough to be killed on the spot, were tortured, raped and eaten by the scourge. The dead were resurrected by the dark powers of Lord Be’rutol, turned into an army that occupied the village.
Apex responded and sent in an army of two hundred and fifty men, they marched to the ruined village. A battle commenced shortly after the army arrived. The demons and undead made quick work of the soldiers. Most soldiers went insane from what they saw, and what happened to villagers was only repeated, and undead numbers grew. It was clear to Apex that it need to help, and couldn’t spend resources on the village and there was no time to waste as the monsters and undead across the realm like a disease.
The holy knights of the Order of the Burning Light found a new calling after the scourge, worshipers of the god Helm, protectors of human kind from the undead and abomination took arms against Lord Be’rutol and his blight. Their extensive training and faith prepared them for what they must deal with. They have since held him at bay, anything under his banner were slayed across the realm of Apex, never letting his mist of horror come close to the capital. On the flip side, the Order are not able to advanced further than Flerue, as the concentration of horrors only become greater.
