Welcome to the homepage of the laboratory of Complex Fluids and Molecular Biophysics of the University of Milan, Department of Biotechnology and Traslational Medicine. Our activity deals with the study of the physics of complex liquid systems and of biomolecules in solution. DNA, proteins, colloidal suspensions and liquid crystals are few examples of fundamental systems that we investigate. Under given circumstances all this systems spontaneously develop fascinating organized structures. The goal of our research is to probe and understand the relationship between the well-known isolated elements (monomers, molecules, particles) and the self-structured assemblies. Our interests extend from fundamental physics to technological applications, from unraveling the mechanisms of biomolecular behavior to discovering novel materials and phenomena. The techniques we use include optical microscopy, light scattering, laser spectroscopy, rheology, electrically induced optical birefringence.Â
