Lessons

The club offers lessons for members every week during the school year and occasional workshops that teach different styles of dance or established choreography. We typically teach East Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, and Charleston with intermediate classes focusing on Lindy. Other dances such as Balboa, Blues, St. Louis Shag, etc. are sometimes touched on.

We will cover the basic techniques in the first few weeks. After that we will learn more moves to add to your basic. You do not need to have a partner because we rotate, but if you are more comfortable learning with one person, you are welcome to stay with one partner. There are always practice sessions after the lessons, so you will be able to brush up on the basic and practice moves.

**You do not need a partner to come to lessons**

We rotate partners during lessons so you will get the chance to dance with everyone. This will also prevent anyone from being without a partner for more than a few minutes at a time.

What do I wear?

Attire: Casual/comfortable, but you can class it up if you wish. The key is to wear something that is easy to move in. Also keep in mind that you may sweat while you dance, especially once we start learning Charleston and/or the weather gets warmer.

Shoes: Sneakers are fine but shoes with less "stick" are better for maximum maneuverability and minimizing the risk of injury. Suede shoes work well on nicer floors, such as those in the IMU 2nd floor ballroom, but may be a bit slick for the Wesley Center's floors: wear with caution. Ballroom shoes are not required at our lessons.
