Yukiyoshi Kurata
Yuki was born in Tokyo and grew up in Yokohama, Japan. He arrived to the US in the year 2000 and has been part of the group for eight years. He is a professional drummer and played for the Japanese band UZUHI, with which he toured the US and Costa Rica. He currently is a drummer at a Jazz fusion and at a Japanese band. Yuki heroically feeds more than 40 colonies each night in Union City and in West New York, more than any other feeder in our group, and most likely in Hudson County. He rescued dozens of cats from those colonies and is one of the most dedicated and hard working cat lovers in our group. Among his notable rescues are “Shinning Star”, a blind girl placed in a reputable sanctuary, see her in our newsletter # 1, “Haruka” a girl with very deformed lips, currently at one of our fosters, see her in our newsletter # 4, and many others.
Fernando Portes, MBA/MEng/MPS/PMP/CQE
Portes has been feeding colonies outside Troy Towers since 2007. In 2012 his family lost a cat of 21 years, and when he tried to do something in memory of this great cat, he found nothing in Union City to support organized and sustainable cat activities. As a result, he approached other cat loving friends and this led to the TNR of the colonies around Troy Towers. We all did not want these efforts to be isolated, one time activities and wanted other cat loving individuals to use what we had obtained (traps, holding space, organization). As a result they led to the formation of the UCFCC to ensure that those successful initial efforts could be replicated to other areas of Union City and adjacent towns.
He is a Principal at Best Project Management, www.bestpjm.com, which he founded and own. He has over twenty years of managerial experience, and very successfully managed a $240 million project with 14,000 activities in Summit, NJ. He published more than ten managerial and technical publications, some of them awarded by his peers and by professional associations.
