The Union City Feral Cat Committee (UCFCC), founded in 2012, is a non-profit organization (501c3) made up of cat loving volunteers who trap, neuter and return (TNR), feed and care for the homeless cats of our neighborhoods. The mission of our group is to care for the homeless cats (both feral and adoptable) of Union City and adjacent towns through TNR, vaccinations, veterinary care, and adoption placement support. We care about homeless cats as much as we care about our families.
Despite no main physical location, we still succeed in placing more cats in homes (168 cats in 2023), feeding more colonies (over 70 per night) and spending more on vet care (over $70,000) than any other group in Hudson County. We work with PetSmart (located in North Bergen) and a network of volunteers to foster and find homes for as many pregnant females, kittens, and other friendly cats as we possibly can. Our rescue parents need not spend any of their own money to care for cats they find outside, as we assist with everything provided they are willing to help feed our cats at PetSmart once per week until homes are found and help foster.
We run on a strictly volunteer basis - no UCFCC member has ever or will ever be paid for their work caring for the cats. We have no administrative costs and put all of our donations towards helping cats. All of our income and expenses and receipts are always available to the public for review. Guidestar.org, which rates the financial management of non profit organizations, gave us the “Platinum Seal of Transparency” their highest rating, for five straight years, for the financial management of our organization: https://www.guidestar.org/profile/46-2849022. This rating is obtained by less than 1% of the non profit organizations in the US.
