2015 Summer Events on Research in Optimization (SERO)
The first event of the series will take place on Monday July 6, at 2:10pm, in the Mathematical Sciences Building, room 3240.
Confirmed speakers:
- Babak Moazzez, Pricing and decomposition update strategies in simplex algorithm
- Yuan Zhou, Extreme Functions for the Gomory-Johnson Infinite Group Problem
- Peijun Xiao, Improvements to the interactive simplex method in SageMath
The second event will take place on Thursday July 9, at 1:30pm, in the Mathematical Sciences Building, room 3240. It is possible to join for lunch before the event.
Confirmed speakers:
- Dan Gusfield, on integer programming approaches in computational biology,
- Matthias Köppe, on a completion-type problem arising in the Gomory-Johnson infinite group problem
The third and final event will take place on Friday September 25 from 3:10 to 6pm, in the Mathematical Sciences Building, room 2112. This is directly after Prof. Friedlander's MAT 258A class.
Speakers:
- Robert Bassett, on stochastic optimal control problems
- Jesus De Loera, on chance-constrained optimization
- Andrew Smith, on recovery processes in infrastructure networks, using mixed-integer linear optimization
- Huasen Wu, on algorithms for stochastic decision problems without prior knowledge and with budget constraints (constrained contextual bandits)
- Michael Friedlander, on level-set methods for convex optimization
After the talks, we will head to Sudwerk for dinner and beverages, where we have a 6:15 reservation. (Sorry, we can't cover you. This is a self-paid event.) RSVP if you would like to join for dinner by clicking here.
