In recent years, Troop 613 has had "high adventure" treks for older scouts. Small crews of scouts and scouters go on backpacking trips on the Appalachian Trail in North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee. In 2019, we went to the Presidential Range in New Hampshire.
These trips have spectacular scenery, but also have difficult trails and hard climbs. To prepare for these trips, the crews take long day hikes and local backpacking trips to improve conditioning, shake out equipment and learn good backpacking practices.
Some of our pictures are below.
Several boys from Troop 613 have also gone to the National Jamboree, Philmont Scout Ranch, and Sea Base over the last several years.
