Troop 20 Always Welcomes New Members
Interested in joining Scouts BSA Troop 20?
Through the programs of Scouts BSA, Troop 20 has a long history of helping the families, churches and schools of the Penns Valley to produce young adults who lead with character and volunteer for community service projects throughout their lives.
The Troop participates in the Scouts BSA's Scouting for Food service project each year and the Scouts are encouraged to plan and lead many other service projects. The Troop also goes to summer camp each year. Every effort is made to help every Scout raise the funds needed to ensure that everyone can go to camp - regardless of their financial need.
New members are always welcome to join the Troop -- no previous Scouting is necessary. Girls in Penns Valley are also invited to join Scouts BSA! New Troops are forming now in our area. Contact our Scoutmaster (see our 'contact us' link) or stop by one of the Troop meetings.
A Legacy of Character-Building in the Penns Valley: Scouts BSA Troop 20 has been serving the Centre Hall community since its founding in 1914. After a few years hiatus in in its early years, the Troop was re-established in 1936 and it has been helping to build the character of Penns Valley youth since then.
Community Service: Each year, the Scouts of Troop 20 are involved in service projects that teach them leadership, organization skills and a positive work ethic. The Scouts also learn about the legacy of Scouting founder, Lord Baden Powell -- to live a life of value marked by character and the principles of the Scout oath and law. These service projects also directly benefit the people of Penns Valley. The Scouts collect food for the needy, learn first aid skills for emergencies and complete numerous community service projects that benefit local state parks, churches, schools and public places.
Leadership Training: Troop 20 also uses the Scouts BSA model of "scout-run" activities to teach important lessons in leadership. This time-honored approach has allowed the Troop to successfully produce a long line of successful youth who earn the coveted rank of Eagle Scout.
Fun Boy Scout Activities: The local Scouts BSA Council (The Juniata Valley Council) provides a variety of challenging activities for the Scouts to enjoy each year. Annual events include weekend Camporees, week-long Summer Camp, the Klondike Derby, The First Aid Meet and Advancement Day. Throughout the year, Scouts work independently on merit badges and their own rank advancement.
Help Troop 20: Community members can provide much needed help to the Scouts of Troop 20 by helping us with our annual flower sales and chicken barbecue. Please contact our Scoutmaster in the spring if you wish to buy tickets for our delicious chicken barbecue on Mother's Day weekend. We also always appreciate donations to our Scout campership fund to ensure that every one of our Scouts can enjoy the week of Summer Camp regardless of financial need.
