Lights, camera, action! For nearly a century, Hollywood films have been a source of entertainment for the American people. However, Hollywood is not just an entertainment industry; directors, producers, and actors often use their films to provide commentary on political, cultural, and social issues. In this way, movies are important historical artifacts that provide critical insight into the study of history. In this course, students will study different eras of history and analyze important Hollywood films made in that time period. As we do this, we will seek to understand how a movie is far more than just entertainment, but is also a “moving image document.”
