Flight comfort
Be aware of sun position when choosing seats.
Airlines influence the layout and appointments of aeroplanes; seat layouts for most airlines and airplanes are listed at SEATGURU
Note that seats in front of emergency exit rows do not recline.
Suggested items to take in your carry-on luggage:
Warm clothes, aeroplanes can get very cold. Budget airlines do not usually provide blankets.
Neck pillow.
Back pillow. Usually provided on full service airlines.
Planes
My favourite aeroplane is the Boeing 777. I have found these to be very quiet and smooth.
The large Airbus A380 airplanes are getting a lot of publicity, but consider the following:
The extra time taken to board so many more people.
The extra time taken to unload so many more people.
The extra time taken to unload so much more luggage.
If you are not travelling business or first-class, these delays may be an issue...
Flight safety
Understand the safety demonstration given at the start of the flight.
Wear your seat belt at all times.
There are survivors in 90% of crashes. Smoke inhalation kills many, so fast response is essential.
Know how to release seat belt.
Sit within 7 rows of an exit.
Sit in an aisle seat.
Memorise number of rows to exits.
Memorise brace position, which is dependent on plane and seat location.
Do not try to keep track of friends, act individually and reunite outside plane. (Except for children.)
