Barkworth and Co Shipping
John Barkworth set up a separate company to run the shipping side of his business interests.
Several of the company’s ships were built by the Barkworth & Hawkes yard at Hessle and sailed to the south seas, the East Indies and the West Indies and South America.

The Barkworth had two decks and was 115’9” long and 32’1022 wide with a 4” bottom
1811 launched at Hessle
1811-16 used on the West Indies trade
1816 taken into East India Company service
1817 returned to Barkworth service
1817-24 on West Indies trade
1824 broken off the Cape Verde Islands 24th September and was not heard of again.
