Ethylene Filtration

We build custom made ethylene filters for use in the floral and produce industries. I was raised in the florist industry and we sponsored seminars on proper care of post production floral products, featuring a Professor from Ohio State University. His ambitions were to develop ways of removing ethylene gas from the storage areas in and around post harvest floral products. His conclusions were to remove ethylene effectively, one would need circulate as much of the surrounding air through a filtering medium to work. He proposed building a flow through chamber with a fan at one end and suspending the filtering medium within the path of the air flow. The unit would be placed as close to the stored product as possible.

We started out by building wooden boxes with a muffin fan at one end and place a container of filter medium inside the box to allow the air to be forced over the granules. This worked pretty well, except that the wooden box was unsightly sitting in the display cooler. Then in 2006, I figured out a way to suspend the medium within a rectangular filter. This gave us the opportunity to use a fan system to force air through the filter. Then we had the idea to utilize the Hepa fan design. The unit hid the filter, maximized air flow through the filter medium and it looked good. Due to the units upright design you can place the unit near the product and maintain a very small foot print.

Our best selling filter contains two pounds of filtering medium which in our test remains effectively cleaning ethylene for three to five months.

BTW, we do have the blessing of Prof. George Stabey from Chain of Life.

Important note BEFORE YOU PURCHASE...........

Please know that I understand every business runs on a budget and I want to be honest in advising you that you can almost always save some money by purchasing the HEPA unit from one of your local retailers. The filter that is packaged with that unit will not clean ethylene gas. So you will need to order the filter from me.
