Driver Education Course Description
Driver education students will study and practice using the mental, physical, and social skills required of a safe driver. Instruction will cover knowledge of the laws and the techniques required for safe and responsible driving. They will receive in class and behind the wheel instruction. Students who achieve proficiency in classroom work and behind the wheel instruction will receive a certificate of completion to be presented at the local Department of Motor Vehicle Office. Students must be 14 years of age prior to the first day of classroom instruction. A vision test and classroom fees will be required. Materials used will include the Kansas State Driver Handbook, the Drive Moodle site and Internet sites.
The Outcome of the course: "To produce safe and responsible driving habits". The instructional portion of the class consist of 20 seat hours and 4-6 sessions of behind the wheel instruction. Students enter the class at a variety of skill levels. Some with many hours behind the wheel while others have little or not experience behind the wheel. Because of this gap in driving skills students with little or not driving experience may need addition driving assistance from parents to pass the competencies in the designated time frame. Keep in mind the purpose of the class is to produce safe and responsible driving habits. This Website is designed as an overview for the entire program.
