McKay, T. H., George, M., Harms, E., & Leoni, C. (Under review). Developing a local medical academic word list (and was it worth it?). TESOL Quarterly.

Almost all data for this study can be found at the following Mendeley Data page: McKay, T., George, M., Harms, E., & Leoni, C. (2022). Local (Medical) Academic Word List, Mendeley Data, V21, https://doi.org/jjt6

Note: The only data we can't make available are our subcorpora. However, please reach out if you want to replicate this work, and maybe we can share our subcorpora if you agree to sign an NDA or no-share agreement of some kind (not sure what that would look like but open to chatting). The subcorpora contain identifying information and a bunch of copyrighted files (e.g., faculties' copyrighted lecture slides).

OVERVIEW

I am very pleased to welcome you to my data page! Here you will find links to all the forms, instruments, and data sets I use and create during the course of my research. If you use any of the forms or data in your own endeavors, please cite the relevant study. Also, I am well versed in oversights and missteps; if you notice anything particularly glaring in any of what follows, I would greatly appreciate an email letting me know!

    • The spreadsheet (above) of raw data contains all our work from the start of this project until its finish. There are draft sheets and more finalized sheets. We haven't touched this spreadsheet since we completed a draft of our manuscript. Data from several sheets were copy-pasted into Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software for further analysis. Do email us if you have questions!

>> Notes <<

  • I wish I had a bit more time to pilot the survey questionnaire in Phase 3. I was in Bangladesh for two months during summer 2016. Two things called for quick piloting of the questionnaire. First, the Ramadan holiday fell right in the middle of my two-month research period, making it difficult to schedule and carry out interviews and focus groups with students and teachers at the various public and private universities. Second, phase one took much longer than expected. University bureaucracy at times meant weeks between scheduling a meeting with a department chair to request permission to carry out research and actually conducting the research!
