Welcome to my Math 11 Pre-Calculus page.
Math Book Assignment:
You will have to read a book that deals with math in some way. The actual assignment is filed under the Class Assignments tab. Summaries of the books in our school library are available at these links: Pre Cal Reading List - NF - Mathematics - DistrictLibGuide at North Vancouver School District #44 (sd44.ca) and Destiny Discover (follettsoftware.com) (the first one appears to be missing some of the books).
Note: If you are asked to sign-in, type "Sutherland" as the school and select Sutherland Secondary from the options. Then proceed to sign-in as a "Guest".
The University of Waterloo's CEMC (Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing) website has video tutorials and review content to help with learning most of the concepts taught in high school mathematics courses, and first year university calculus. Below is a table of the topics we are studying this year, and links to video lessons that can be used to learn or review the concepts. After each lesson is a set of Check Your Understanding questions that you can answer. When you enter the answer, it will tell you if you got it right, and show you a proper solution for the problem. These are followed by a set of practice Exercises that come with full Solutions; these questions range from simple and direct use of the concepts, to challenging applications of the theory.
Here is another site that teaches much of this content: Unit 3 - 3.5 Lesson (lorrainebaron.org)
The author of this was a BC math teacher working at UBC.
Here are some additional resources that may help with learning the content of this course.
Parabolas
Change the shape of a parabola by playing with sliders that change the values of a, b and c in the standard form equation, or by changing a, p and q in the vertex form equation.
