Importing Toucan's models

In this tutorial I'll learn you how to import the .3ds models from Toucan Corporation.

 

Programs you need:

-Blender (I use version 2.49b) + Nifscripts (I use 1.5.7)

-Nifskope

-DXTBmp

-Balancer Lite http://www.atangeo.com/download

 

Step 1: Joining the model parts.

-Import the .3ds in Blender

-Select all model parts by pressing A.

-Click Object-Join Object-Join selected meshes

-Export the model as .obj.

 

Step 2: Vert reducing

-Open the .obj in Balancer Lite

-Click on Build (Hierarchie with Tolerance)

- Make sure the model has about 1800 faces.

- Save the model

Step 3: Rigging

-Import the reduced .obj in Blender

- Go to edit mode and select the model by pressing A.

- Click Mesh-Faces-Set Smooth

- Now rig the model

- When you're done, export the model and bones as .nif

 

Step 4: Nifskope

- Nifcode the model

 

Step 5: Importing the skin

Open the .bmp skin in DXTBmp. Click File-Save as-DDS Texture. Choose Texture type 'DDS DXT1'
