The "Sign of the Cross" in East and West

As can be seen from the diagram: the Eastern Christian version of the "sign of the cross" also forms a five-pointed-star, and in the ancient Church that type of star signified the Star of Bethlehem, while also standing for the five wounds of Christ, the five joys of the Virgin, and it was even seen as a symbol of the incarnation, because the five points represented a man's body (i.e., the two points aimed down represent his legs, while the two points outstretched represent his arms, and the one point aimed upwards signifies his head).
