Many years ago, the Lord gave me a revelation of an analogy of ones personal walk with Christ. I had finished bible study that morning and the ups and downs of being a Christian were heavy on my mind.
I have always wondered why some are very close to and on fire for the Lord Jesus Christ. And yet others live as far away as possible but still claim salvation by the King of kings and the Lord of lords.
At the time I believe my youngest daughter was still in youth group and we were still in the Assembly of God church we had been at for over 7 years. Involved with lots of projects and programs, as were most of the young people in that church. I mistakenly thought because of all of this and the level of anointing and Holy Spirit filled praise and worship and great preaching, these and their families were sold out to Jesus and heading to Glory. I am sure most were very intentional about their walk with the Lord as were me and my husband Bob.
The Lord soon revealed the TRUTH, that not all was happy in happy land. As these young people began to mature and leave the church, so they left their faith in Christ
(if they ever had any) Kind of heartbreaking and discouraging to know the level of investment that had been put before these kids by parents and church staff. Only to have them separate from the spiritual roots they had been so close to.
The ups and downs of my own spiritual walk with Christ was also in question at times.
If we are very patient and pay attention to the leading of the Holy Spirit, we will soon enough see the reasons why things go as they did.
Anyway, the subject of this writing as I will lay out, is the Jelly Doughnut Theory as I call it:
A Jelly Doughnut is sugar glazed covered goodness with hole still in tact with luscious jelly filling in the center on top of it. Most start on the out side and eat their way to the center and eat the jelly last. Others go for the jelly first and eat the outside last. No matter how you eat it. A Jelly Doughnut is YUMMY!!!
Now, how does this apply to ones personal walk with Christ? As people come to Christ, commitment is not always the first achievable goal in mind. So these ones hang out on the edge of the Jelly Doughnut wanting to partake but still joined at the hip to the world and its attractions. So they nibble away at the out side going to church(when they feel like it), sit in the back and go through the motions and dart out the door just as soon as the last song plays. Life, age and experience change this eventually while some go away from Christ completely. How sad!
The next group take bites of the outside going to church regularly with the family and socially attached with those their own age. And speak Christian lingo and occasionally go out and help witness to the lost as long as there are plenty of others in the group for support. These would NEVER think of going alone , or teaching a class, or singing in the choir. They are still attached to worldly pleasures but restrict use to less offensive things. Their relationship with Christ will remain and they could draw much closer to Christ and then possibly stay right where they are as happy with their place and purpose and never know the deep things of God.
The next group eats the out side to the jelly and saves the middle for last. This group knows they need more of God and they want more of God. But are not sure how to do it or how the family and friends will react if they become more religious. Eating the goodness of the Holy Spirit up to now has been pleasurable just like eating the outside of the jelly doughnut. But total commitment is still yards away.(That is the jelly center still remains to be eaten. This would be the realm of the Holy Spirit which looks cool to them but they are a little afraid to go there. So it will be one of the last thing as a believer they will do. (Hence, the jelly center eaten last)
The last group dive right into the center of the jelly doughnut and eat the yummy goodness of the jelly right off. Like falling head over heels in LOVE with the Lord Jesus Christ and having savored the goodness of the Holy Spirit as they have given their lives to Christ. They are so on fire and hot to serve Him Who died for them. They will eat the outside also, but with the flavor of the YUMMY jelly center still in their mouth enhancing the goodness of the outside. Like having the whole of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit with tongues and spiritual gifts and a calling to serve God. And the other things of God ( the outside)are picked up(eaten) as their live goes forward for them. Sold out to Jesus and definitely heading home to glory after their service to God on earth.
The choice belongs the ones who come to Christ as to how much of Him they have in their lives. A ONE TIME ANOINTING IS NOT ENOUGH!!!
We ALL need more of Jesus.
2Cr 6:14-18
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers:
for what fellowship hath righteousness with
unrighteousness? and what communion hath light
with darkness?
And what concord hath Christ with Belial?
or what part hath he that believeth
with an infidel?And what agreement
hath the temple of God with idols?
for ye are the temple of the living God;
as God hath said,
I will dwell in them, and walk in [them]; and
I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Wherefore come out from among them,
and be ye separate, saith the Lord,
and touch not the unclean [thing];
and I will receive you,
And will be a Father unto you,
and ye shall be my sons and daughters,
saith the Lord Almighty.
