Change is inevitable
As the Road Angels got older, so did many of its members (feature that!). And with that, some of the things that were fun and interesting before, weren't as much anymore. You know - like men members dressing up as women at the Christmas parties, or sandal-wearing women members taking chairlifts to an 8,500 foot mountain lodge for a dinner - in a snow storm - in July! (God that was fun??). Change was not only inevitable but necessary if the club was to continue to grow and be a group that enjoyed its activities and fellow members as before.
Club membership was increased a little to allow some new people in and a focus on increasing the number of members actively participating in club functions.
With hundreds of cruise-ins and parking lot car shows under their belts, there was an increased interest in going more places - driving the cars more! There is a revitalized interest now in the club overall. Newer members are anxious to be involved and the older members are glad to turn over some of the reins to them.
It's a new and exciting time for the Road Angels. Monthly club meetings are well attended and there is plenty of interest in doing things together as well as keeping the club's historical roots in mind. There are garage tour events meant more for the hot rod builders and car buffs in the club. And historical museums, winery tours and Bunko parties for the group as a whole. Guest speakers have been added to meetings that are informative and interesting. There's something for everybody and it's still about driving the rods!
So the future looks bright for the club. Membership currently stands at 30 plus. This website has been launched, new events are being planned and new street rods are unveiled by their builders/owners all the time.
So, if you happen to see Road Angels cars and club members, stop them and say hi, check out their beautiful rides and tell them you know all about them now! And if they ask, how? Tell them you saw it all here at the website home of the Portland Road Angels.
THE END! (but not!)
Post Script: An anonymous club member (below) leans over and gives a too friendly Road Angels "The End" salute. (Hint: 20 years ago, he dressed up as a woman at a club party - see how some of us have matured with age?)
Yesterday - when we were young-er ...
Past Christmas party gender benders at a Miss Road Angels contest! Larry Wilkinson (far right) took the honors. Must have been the hair - ON HIS LEGS!

More winery stops and and lots of tastings - except for the drivers!
