Mitchells Rocks (aka Measleys Beach) SandStone

There have been many great pieces of work written by past members, especially in the years went rockhounding was in in its glory the 70's and 80's. In those days there was a national magazine called Rockhunter. It is from this magazine that many of the articles attached here come from.

These articles are written by many people, who like us had a love for rockhounding. They describe the minerals they found, the adventures they had on field trips and knowledge they parted with. Sadly some of these people passed away - leaving us with their knowledge written in words.

So instead of leaving this knowledge collecting dust on a shelf I have been busy scanning articles from Rockhunter (and some other newsletters) and placing them here so that this information is not lost.

Each province is listed on the tool bar to the left - where possible I have tried to put articles in the correct province. The South Island features predominantly (apologies to those in the North).

Maybe you would like to retrace some of their adventures?

A special thanks goes to those members present and past (listed below) for their articles and or for supplying articles. (By the way if you have an adventure you want to share or have a record of it let me know).
