Years are noted by the Common Calendar, which began 580 years previously with the founding of the Great Kingdom in the east. Though many in Keoland and other parts of the western Flanaess that were never conquered by the Great Kingdom still use the Suloise Dating calendar, for convenience most have adopted the Common Calendar. The calendar year is made up of a 365 days, with 12 months of 28 days each, and 4 festivals of 7 days each, one between every 3 months. The months are each divided into 4 weeks of 7 days each. The months and festivals are based on the cycles of Oerth's moons, Luna and Celene. Luna has a twenty-eight day cycle, while Celene's cycle is ninety-one days. Celene is full at the midpoint of each festival, while Luna is full at various times throughout the year. The year begins on the first day of the Festival of Needfest (Midwinter) and ends on the last day of the Month of Sunsebb.
The months, festivals and the season they take place in are (Festivals are denoted in bold) - Needfest (Midwinter), Fireseek (Winter), Readying (Spring), Coldeven (Spring), Growfest, Planting (Low Summer), Flocktime (Low Summer), Wealsun (Low Summer), Richfest (Midsummer), Reaping (High Summer), Goodmonth (High Summer), Harvester (High Summer), Brewfest, Patchwall (Autumn), Ready'reat (Autumn), Sunsebb (Winter)
The days of the week and the typical task or event of each day are - Starday (work), Sunday (work), Moonday (work), Godsday (worship, rest), Waterday (work), Earthday (work), Freeday (rest).
