Prof. Mehmet Ünlü received his B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara, Türkiye, in 2001, 2003, and 2009, respectively. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the METU-MEMS Center in 2009. Between 2009 and 2011, while affiliated with Utah State University, he conducted research at the Cornell University Nanoscale Science and Technology Facility (CNF) in Ithaca, New York. He then served as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Michigan from 2011 to 2012. Between 2012 and 2018, he was a faculty member at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University. He is currently a faculty member at TOBB University of Economics and Technology (TOBB ETÜ) in Ankara, Türkiye.
His previous research interests include terahertz components, plasmonic structures, optoelectronics, nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS), and reconfigurable circuits and antennas for microwave and millimeter-wave applications. His current research focuses on quantum technologies, particularly photonic integrated circuits and systems for quantum computing, quantum communication, and quantum sensing.
Prof. Ünlü was awarded the TÜBİTAK Doctoral Scholarship from 2003 to 2009. In 2009, he received the Prof. Mustafa N. Parlar Thesis of the Year Award from the Prof. Mustafa N. Parlar Education and Research Foundation for his doctoral dissertation. In 2013, he won Second Place in the IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation Best Student Paper Competition and Third Place in the IEEE International Microwave Symposium Best Student Paper Competition. In the same year, he was also honored with the Prof. Mustafa N. Parlar Research Encouragement Award. He received the International Union of Radio Science (URSI) Young Scientist Award in 2014 and the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) Outstanding Young Scientist Award in 2015. In addition, many of his undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students have received prestigious national and international awards. Prof. Ünlü is a Senior Member of IEEE.
